Patients and visitors have been impressed with the new $147-million expansion at Bayhealth Kent General. Now, the blueprint for that facility is getting kudos from an architectural trade industry organization.
Bayhealth’s architect, EwingCole, has earned the 2012 Best Interior Design Award given by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware Chapter.
In recognizing EwingCole, judges commented how the modern interior design of the newly expanded hospital “creates a dynamic comfort level for both patient and staff.” The judges also commended the architect for a “design that is exciting and innovative for a health care facility.” Judges say the expansion “pushes the design envelope forward with its …vision of modern interior spaces.”
In January, Bayhealth Kent General opened the 400,000 square foot expansion which includes a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department, an integrated Cancer Center, new Welcome Pavilion, new Central Services Building, and a new 375-space parking garage.
