Bayhealth Has Not Used Contaminated NECC Steroid Injections

10.19.2012

Several deaths have been reported nationwide due to tainted steroid injections carrying fungal meningitis.  This product, prepared by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) based in Massachusetts, was administered in hospitals and other health care facilities as an epidural injection until it was recalled on October 6.

The Delaware Division of Public Health issued a statement reporting that according to the Food and Drug Administration, Bayhealth was one of many Delaware providers to receive NECC medications. Bayhealth did not receive any contaminated injectable steroid product associated with the fungal meningitis infection and deaths.  Bayhealth has pulled all non-injectable products supplied by the NECC.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating this recall.

Bayhealth will continue to monitor the CDC, the FDA, the American Hospital Association and the Delaware Division of Public Health for updated information on this nationwide recall and communicate the information as it becomes available.
