Bayhealth would like to remind the community to take these precautions before Hurricane Sandy hits our area:
-
Move all patio furniture, grills inside - including flower pots as they can become airborne missiles in the wind - help your neighbors if they are aware so their furniture does not go through your windows
-
Fill your tub/tubs with water - not for drinking but for washing hands, flushing toilets, etc.
-
Raise surge protectors off the ground in basements or areas that may flood
-
Fill your tanks with gas; if you are leaving the area it is a good idea to fill up when you get to your destination too
-
Have a cooler with ice for perishables if you lose power (for an extended period of time)
-
Fill up your propane tank or buy charcoal so you can cook your non-perishable food after the storm if you lose power - and if you have to leave your grill outside remove the cover so it does not turn in to a sail
-
Do laundry and other things that require clean water prior to the storm hitting
-
Batteries for flashlights and radios
-
Have drinking water & non-perishable foods
