Being a part of the Explorers program has benefited me greatly. Not only does it offer me opportunities for community service hours that will look impressive on job and college applications, but it has also given me a chance to explore all the different kinds of professions in the healthcare field and will help me decide what I would want to do with my life. Without Explorers, I would still be unsure of what career I’d like to pursue in my future.”
President of Explorers Post 804
Healthcare Explorer Post 804 at Bayhealth is now actively recruiting young people to join its program! This group is provided through a partnership between Bayhealth and the Del-Mar-Va Council. It is targeted for students ages 14-20 who have completed the eighth grade to offer them interesting perspectives unique to particular healthcare fields. Benefits to youth involved include hands-on experiences, leadership opportunities, social networking skills, community service offerings, and college/career preparation. Students learn to work together as a team in a professional atmosphere during monthly meetings.
If you know of a student who would benefit from this group, please have them join a meeting. Annual membership dues are $30. For students who attend four meetings during the school year, they are eligible for a yellow Explorers scrub top. New advisors are also being recruited to serve as resources for the students at meetings and community events.
We are ready for another exciting year for Post 804! The schedule is complete for the 2013-2014 school year. Meetings are scheduled on the second Wednesday of each month from September through May from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The first planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11 in the Pavilion Conference area at Kent General. For those who are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare professions, plan to attend and bring a friend in order to prepare for our annual “Open House” that is scheduled for October 9, 2013.
