Bayhealth has partnered with Million Hearts® Delaware to help reduce the numbers of Delawareans who die from heart disease and stroke each year.
Heart disease and stroke are leading causes of death in Delaware, and our adult stroke rate is higher than the national average. Bayhealth is committed to raising awareness of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease and supporting individuals in adopting a healthier lifestyle.
One of the prime goals of Million Hearts® is to connect at-risk individuals with healthcare providers who can help them implement positive changes to improve cardiovascular health.
Bayhealth will be collaborating with community organizations to offer blood pressure screenings and take waist circumference measurements—two methods of assessing a person’s risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Individuals with results outside the normal range will be encouraged to share their data with their healthcare providers.
Bayhealth staff can assist participants in locating an appropriate provider if necessary. By taking simple steps, we can help fellow Delawareans live healthier lives and prevent deaths from heart disease and stroke.
Million Hearts® began in September 2011 to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. In Delaware, the partnership includes hospital systems, the Delaware Division of Public Health, Medical Society of Delaware, the American Heart Association, and numerous other groups.
