Bayhealth is pleased to welcome Rachael Ali-Permell, RRT, AEC, NPS, ACCS, of New Castle, Del., as the new Respiratory Therapy Manager.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the staff and having the therapists more involved in the care of our ICU patients,” she said.
Ali-Permell brings 20 years of experience in respiratory therapy and 14 years of managerial experience to Bayhealth. She spent the majority of her career with the multi-hospital North Shore-LIJ health system in New York. She most recently served as Director of Respiratory Therapy at Long Island Jewish Medical Center where she managed a staff of 80 respiratory therapists, and was previously Supervisor and then Assistant Director of Respiratory Therapy at North Shore University Hospital.
“I originally started college as a pre-med student at Syracuse, but decided against it,” she said. “I knew I wanted to stay in the medical field so I attended a career day, where I learned about respiratory therapy and became intrigued by it. In this field you deal with life support for all populations – from newborn to geriatric – and I thought I could make a difference in someone’s life.”
Ali-Permell received her bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy at SUNY Upstate, and worked for 10 years in the college’s affiliated hospital after receiving her degree. She is a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care and the National Board of Respiratory Care. She is also a certified asthma educator, a neonatal pediatric specialist, an adult critical care specialist and a registered respiratory therapist.
Ali-Permell and her husband, Leonard, a radiation therapist at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, have two children: 10-year-old Leonard and seven-year-old Raniah.
Rachael said that she is looking forward to a successful career here at Bayhealth Medical Center.
