When her newborn, Aubrey, was diagnosed with jaundice and needed to stay in the hospital overnight, mom Veronica Behrns stayed right down the hall.

“I was extremely grateful that I could stay with my baby,” Behrns said. As a new mom, worried about her baby’s health, her home in Felton seemed a thousand miles away from where she most wanted to be.

Thanks to Bayhealth Kent General’s Ronald Room, which provides housing and meals for families whose children are in the intensive care unit, Behrns didn’t have to leave.

Aubrey was pronounced healthy the next day. Mom and baby safely made the trip home.

This week, Behrns returned to Kent General with a large bin of soup, pasta, crackers, and other food to stock the Ronald Room’s pantry. The gift was a joint effort between Behrns, her mother, Diane Andrews, and her fiancé, Brian Duerr.

Andrews’ and Duerr’s companies, Scenic Design Landscaping and Bright Side Builders & Design, also contributed. Terry Schrenker, Bayhealth director of Volunteer Services, received the donation.
