Bayhealth Holds Rehab Olympics

02.24.2014

Members of Bayhealth’s Rehabilitation Services brought some Olympic fever to Kent General by designing and competing in its own version of the games, the “Rehab Olympics.”

Each specialty in the department – Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Inpatient Therapy and Speech Pathology – participated in the games by designing a flag and devising a game or event to challenge co-workers.

Rehab Olympics began with the carrying of the torch from Kent General’s Inpatient Rehab Department to Outpatient Rehab Services across the street. Patients were invited to vote on their favorite flag, and the scores of each daily event were recorded throughout the week and tallied during the closing ceremonies. Events included making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with only one hand (demonstrating occupational therapy), navigating an obstacle course blindfolded with a guide (demonstrating physical therapy) and “mental gymnastics” in a game show format.

At the conclusion of the games, the gold medal was awarded to Sports Medicine, silver to Speech Pathology and bronze to Inpatient PT – Acute Care. Captains representing each team are pictured from left to right: Lead Inpatient Physical Therapist Brian Lewis, MPT; Physical Therapy Aide James Viscount; and Speech Language Pathologist Ben Rubin, MA, CF-SLP.
