What is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive disorder that affects the part of the brain that controls muscle movement. As many as one million Americans suffer from the disease while approximately 40,000 more are diagnosed each year.

Bayhealth Medical Center’s Education Department offers a Parkinson’s Disease Support Group for persons with the disease or other related neurological diseases and those who love and care for them. Bayhealth Clinical Educator Paula Bodner, MSN, RN-BC, co-facilitates the support group with assistance from the Delaware Caregiver Resource Center at the Modern Maturity Center.

Free materials about Parkinson’s Disease are provided from the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation and other resources. Occasional guest speakers are scheduled on topics requested by the group and/or identified through informal discussion.

The support group meets the first Friday of every month. For more information, please contact Paula Bodner, MSN, RN-BC at (302) 744-6997 or Bayhealth’s Education Department at (302) 744-7135.
