Doctor Mattern attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine (1967-1971) and is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, who started his practice in Dover, DE in 1981, after serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He is on the staff at Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, and has served as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well as on numerous committees, and boards. He is the team doctor for Dover High School and Wesley College. He devotes numerous hours to community service, which has included being a bell ringer for the Salvation Army. When possible, he enjoys playing golf, scuba diving, and traveling.
