Treating a Nosebleed

If you get a nosebleed, sit down and lean forward slightly, says the American Academy of Family Physicians. Leaning forward will allow the blood to drain out of your nose instead of down your throat. Swallowing blood may make you nauseous or give you diarrhea. You should squeeze together the soft area of your nose with your thumb and forefinger. Hold your nose for at least 5 minutes. If it still bleeds after that time, hold your nose again for 10 minutes.
