Diagnostic cardiology services are available in Bayhealth’s Cardiac Catheterization Suite. Cardiac catheterization is a means of evaluating the heart and coronary arteries for disease or blockage, and to determine if interventional or surgical services are needed.
Bayhealth’s Cardiac Catheterization Suite includes two cardiac catheterization labs. Other tests offered to diagnose and treat heart problems include:
- Echocardiograms – performed to evaluate the heart’s function, valves and blood flow.
- Electrocardiograms (ECG) – performed to record the heart’s electrical activity to identify any abnormalities in the heart’s rhythm.
- Exercise Stress Tests – records the electrical activity of the heart at rest, during exercise, and after exercise to determine how the heart performs during physical activity and to identify possible heart complications during exercise.
- Holter Monitoring – records a patient's heart beat for 24, 48 or 72 hours to provide a continuous reading of the heart rhythm.
- Nuclear cardiac stress tests – to assess blood flow to the heart during both rest and exercise.
- Stress Echocardiograms – A combination standard exercise stress test and echocardiogram used to detect the presence and/or assess the significance of blocked arteries by comparing ultrasound images of the heart before and after exercise.
- Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) – this test produces an image from inside the chest to obtain exceptionally clear images of the heart's structure.
