the special needs of children.
Child Life Therapy
Departments at both Kent General and Milford Memorial Hospitals have playrooms.
Our specially trained Child Life Therapists help ease concerns of children and their
families and provide learning experiences through tours and activities. Our "sleeping-in"
program allows one parent to stay the night with the child. Please call the Bayhealth
Education Department at 1-877-453-7101 for more information on Child Life therapy.
Kent General Hospital Pediatric Department
Kent General's Pediatric Department has 13 beds for patients up to age 17. Kent
General also has a dedicated Level II Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to provide
more concentrated attention for children needing high-level care. The unit helps
keep hospitalized children and their families together by enabling children requiring
Level II care to remain close to their family and friends. Kent General also offers
a Ronald McDonald Room for families with infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit (NICU). The Ronald Room is sponsored by the Ronald McDonald House of Delaware.
This area has a kitchenette, sitting area and play area. The sitting areas convert
to provide sleep accommodations on a short-term basis while the infant is critical
or for time of transitioning to the home. Volunteers are available daily from 4:00
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. volunteers may supervise younger siblings older than one year
old while parents visit the child in the NICU.
Milford Memorial Hospital Pediatric Department
Milford Memorial's Pediatric Department has 4 beds for patients up to age 17. If
needed, patients can be transferred to Kent General's PICU for higher-level care.
