David Sharkey is from Wilmington, Delaware. In high school, he was very interested in the sciences and healthcare, which lead him to pursue a degree in pharmacy. He graduated in May with honors from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University and received his doctor of pharmacy degree.
Through his work experience at Walgreens and Saveway Compounding Pharmacy, David knew that he had picked a career path that would allow him to continue to expand his interest in drug therapy and work directly with patients in the community. After gaining experience through school in various hospital settings and using what he had learned in a direct patient care role, he knew that a clinical pharmacist role would fit perfectly with his career ambitions.
David is very excited to start his residency at Bayhealth and work directly with other healthcare providers to optimize patient care. He hopes someday to expand his experience at Bayhealth by pursuing either a PGY2 residency or a clinical pharmacist role. Throughout his advanced practice experiences in school, he developed interests in internal medicine, emergency medicine, drug information and teaching. In addition to his current interests, David says, “Some of the best aspects about a career in pharmacy are the opportunities to expand my interests and to further my knowledge in different areas of practice.”
