Whether you arrive by ambulance or private vehicle, you will be assessed immediately by a highly trained nurse who will determine the severity of your illness or injury. Patients with more serious problems are seen first, regardless of when patients arrive. The nurse will assess your medical condition by taking your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and a brief medical history. Then, you and your family will be called to the registration desk so we may obtain information on your address, phone number, regular doctor's name and insurance carrier. The Emergency Department doctor will examine you as soon as possible. This exam may be delayed, however, if more critical patients arrive unexpectedly. The doctor may order tests, x-rays and/or bloodwork. Obtaining the results may take some time. As soon as your results are available, your doctor will examine the findings. Depending on your particular emergency, your treatment may be simple or complex. It may take a few minutes or several hours depending on your illness or injury, and the presence of other critical patients. The doctor will determine whether you will discharged from the Emergency Department or admitted to the hospital. If you are discharged to go home, the nurse will provide you with instructions and any prescriptions from the doctor. If you are admitted to the hospital, you may have to wait in the Emergency Department until a bed is available. As soon as a room is prepared, we will take you to your room. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please ask the doctor or nurse. Visitor Policy
