Individualized Treatment Plans

Bayhealth’s Wound Care Center is supported by a team of specialists called the Physician Panel. The Physician Panel looks at wound care from a holistic approach, beginning with an assessment of the patient’s nutritional condition, general medical status, circulation, neuropathy, infection risks and deformities. Using this information, the team creates an individualized treatment plan to effectively address the non-healing wound.

Wound Care Center Treatment Options

Physicians may employ many different clinical tools throughout the treatment plan. These tools include traditional healing methods and state-of-the-art innovations in wound care.

  • Advanced wound care dressings
  • Bioengineered skin substitutes or grafts
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
  • Total contact casting
  • Compression therapy
  • Edema management
  • Debridement
  • Non-invasive vascular assessment

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) helps improve the body’s healing function by increasing oxygen flow. While enclosed in a hyperbaric chamber, patients breathe pure oxygen, saturating their blood plasma and allowing it to carry 15 to 20 times the normal amount of healing oxygen to the body’s tissues. Bayhealth physicians are trained to use hyperbaric medicine, and technicians make patients comfortable by sitting beside them while they receive the therapy.
