Bayhealth proudly announces that Darrell Carpenter, MD, FACS, has joined Bayhealth General Surgery, Dover. He is welcomed to the practice by Edward Alexander, MD, FACS, and Assar Rather, MD, FACS.
The practice is part of the Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians, their clinical staff, and an administrative support team that operates practices throughout central and southern Delaware.
Dr. Carpenter’s areas of proficiency include minimally invasive/advanced laparoscopic surgery, colorectal surgery, breast surgery, hernia repairs, gastrointestinal surgery, and endoscopy.
He came to Delaware after serving for the past four years as a contracted physician in Trauma Services and the Department of General Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. He led the integrated care of Wounded Warriors and taught minimally invasive surgery to general surgery residents.
Dr. Carpenter was the first residency trained laparoscopic general surgeon in the United States and has since gone on to offer his expansive knowledge to surgeons throughout the country. He has served on the teaching staffs of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Calif., and City of Hope Cancer Center/Breast Center in Duarte, Calif.
He earned his medical degree from State University of New York, Upstate Medical Center School of Medicine, Syracuse. He completed a surgical internship, general surgery residency and general surgery chief residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, Calif.
Dr. Carpenter is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.
