Bayhealth Offers Online Childbirth Education

Bayhealth is proud to be the first hospital in Delaware to introduce an online childbirth education class. This course is a great option for parents who want to learn all they can about what to expect when the new baby arrives, but aren’t able to make it to a class at the hospital.

The online class is an interactive, web-based program that includes animated illustrations, activities, and videos. It can be viewed on a PC, Mac or mobile device.

Participants will learn about childbirth, breastfeeding, and caring for a newborn—all key topics for new parents. The course is also a nice refresher for parents preparing for the birth of another child.

"We believe if parents are prepared for the birth of their baby, they are more confident and have a very positive experience," said Wendy Lovette, MSN, RN, LCCE, Bayhealth clinical educator.

One important part of the Bayhealth program focuses on communication. It helps parents understand how to ask questions and participate in the birth process along with doctors, nurses, midwives, and other care providers.

The cost for this program is $70. Once users have registered and paid for the program, they are sent an access code and user’s guide.

Users will have 3 months to complete the program at their own pace, whenever it’s most convenient.

"Parents are much more comfortable using technology now," said Lovette. "This course is a way for us to reach our online moms with information that is reliable and safe. We also want to reach moms who are on bedrest or can't make it to the hospital."

Parents-to-be can feel comfortable and confident, knowing they can complete childbirth education classes without having to leave home. When questions arise, Bayhealth educators are available as another layer of support.

Bayhealth also provides education for parents after the baby is born. We continue to offer parent education classes and tours on-site in our hospitals, as well.
