Bayhealth recently received a generous $2 million contribution from the Bayhealth Foundation. Of this, $1.3 million will go toward supporting nursing education and nursing specialty certification.
Bonnie Perratto, MSN, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, senior vice president and chief nursing executive, commented, “There is a real need for nurses to be more prepared at the baccalaureate and master’s level, and certified in their area of specialization. Evidence-based research shows that hospitals with nurses prepared at this level can achieve better patient outcomes. At Bayhealth, we believe it is important to support our nurses when they are working towards that higher level.”
According to Perratto, Bayhealth is well on the way to having 80% of its direct care nursing staff BSN or MSN prepared by 2020.
The mission of Bayhealth Foundation is to develop ongoing philanthropic support for the programs and services of Bayhealth and its health care affiliates. Created in 1983, the Bayhealth Foundation receives, manages and disburses all contributions, including cash donations, securities, real estate, gifts-in-kind, or bequests, to improve Bayhealth's services.
