Bayhealth Announces MMH Employee of the Quarter

Milford Memorial Social Worker Louis Gasperetti, MSW, of Magnolia received Bayhealth Milford Memorial’s Employee of the Quarter Award in a surprise ceremony in February.

“It’s really nice to be recognized,” he said. “They’re very good at recognizing people here at Bayhealth and I like that. You’re not just an employee here.”

“The thing I love most about my job is being able to help people,” he said.

As a Social Worker at Bayhealth, Gasparetti, helps to coordinate a patient’s discharge from Milford Memorial to home (including helping to arrange for home health care services), a rehabilitation center or a nursing home; and works with insurance companies on behalf of patients. Gasparetti assists patients being discharged from Maternity, 3East Medical-Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and Pediatrics.

A Bayhealth employee since September 2006, Gasparetti began his career at Kent General before transferring to Milford Memorial two years ago. He received his bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in Italian (he is a first-generation American – his parents were farmers in Italy) from Queens College in New York City, and his master’s degree in social work from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY.

A born and bred Brooklynite, Gasparetti worked as a social worker in the same New York hospital in which he was born until his move to Delaware in February 2006.

“We wanted to move to either California or Delaware because they’re more family-oriented. The last 10 years I worked in New York City and lived in New Jersey, so the commute took a lot of time away from my family,” he said.

Gasparetti devotes the majority of his free time to his family. He enjoys going to the beach with his wife, reading a good mystery novel and visiting his daughter Rebecca, a freshman at the University of Delaware who is also this year’s reigning National American Miss Teen Queen
