Bayhealth Visitation Policy

We believe those who play significant roles in the lives of our patients also play positive roles in their recovery.

  • Visiting is encouraged as long as the patient’s condition and patient and/or physician request allows.
  • Rest and quiet are essential.
  • Keep noise levels low.
  • Please supervise young visitors and children.
  • Limiting the number of visitors often improves a patient’s recovery experience.
  • Please wash your hands when entering and leaving a patient’s room.
  • Do not visit if you are ill.
  • Check with the nursing staff before sharing food from home.

Hospital Entrance After Hours

For the safety of our patients and employees, the hospital locks the main entrances after 8:00 p.m. Every effort is being made to provide a secure environment to our patients and staff.

To gain entrance to Kent General after hours, please have family/visitors come to the north side of the building. At the Employee Entrance, there is a phone they may use to contact our Security Department, who will verify patient approval to receive visitors. At Kent General, entrance to the hospital may not be accessed from the Emergency Department.

To gain entrance at Milford Memorial after hours, please have family/visitors come to the Emergency Department. Please understand if you are asked to verify your identification.

Equal Visitation at Bayhealth

In support of our patients' rights, Bayhealth allows patients to designate and receive visitors including, but not limited to, their spouse, significant other, family members, friends or clergy for emotional support during the course of their stay.  Our patients are able to withdraw or change such consent at any time.

Bayhealth prohibits discrimination against our visitors, patients, and staff based on age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity and expression.  Visitors designated by our patients (or their care partner, when appropriate) do not have to be our patients’ legal relatives to enjoy full visitation rights and privileges.

Please stop by the Information Desk for more details.
