Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware has recognized Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus and Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus with a Blue Distinction® Center designation for Maternity Care as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community. The Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on quality measures for vaginal and cesarean delivery.
Maternity Care Provides Patient Education for Added Confidence
Our experts in maternity care, including board-certified obstetricians and neonatologists, provide moms and newborns with the continuity of excellent care necessary for optimal outcomes.
With a comprehensive team of physicians, nurses and physician assistants at Bayhealth, we provide complete maternity care with expert guidance from prenatal care through delivery. We give our moms confidence in going home because we integrate patient education every step of the way. Classes include childbirth education, infant care and a special class for siblings called Hello Baby.
Since depression or anxiety increase health risks for both the mother and baby, Bayhealth assesses women for postpartum depression during pregnancy and after delivery.
We are the Baby-Friendly® designated, providing breastfeeding education and lactation support groups for a seamless transition from the hospital.
Advanced Care for Newborns
At Bayhealth, we offer Level I Neonatal care (normal newborn care) at Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus for well newborns and stabilization for sick newborns. We also offer Level II Special Care Nursery care at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus for premature and full term infants that may need stabilization or specialized care for more serious conditions.
Our board-certified neonatologists care for the most complex and high risk newborn patients including premature birth, serious illness or clinical issues from birth defects. All of our specialists are board-certified by both the American Board of Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
