Awards & Recognitions
Lauren Nickerson, RN, cares for patients at the Kent Campus and has been awarded the DAISY Award for Staff Nurse. She has beautifully demonstrated compassion, accountability, respect, integrity and teamwork which are incredibly valuable to Bayhealth.
The DAISY Award is a “thank you” to extraordinary nurses. This program recognizes nurses who show compassion and determination through the care they provide. The DAISY Award honors the super-human work that nurses everywhere do for their patients along with their families.
Nickerson’s extra sprinkle of warmth and devotion within the care that she provides did not go unnoticed by the daughter of one patient. She was able to put both the patient and daughter at ease by reassuring them and creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Making an unfamiliar space comfortable was just as important to the patient’s daughter as it was to the patient. The amount of compassion that Nickerson demonstrated as well as her ability to create a relaxing atmosphere was incredibly appreciated by the patient and her family.
Nickerson also demonstrated that she was efficient and very knowledgeable when it came to her patient’s care. She was able to talk her patient’s family through exactly what was taking place while continuing to keep a calm and collected demeanor.
Teamwork and the ability to share information in an effective way was another aspect of Nickerson’s care that was noticed by her patient’s family. Professionalism, efficiency, compassion and respect are just a few key words used when describing what type of care she provides.

The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes Family wanted to recognize the nurses who cared for Patrick and all the other “unsung heroes” of the nursing profession.
Daisy Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and family. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit Bayhealth.org/DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
