Firm Selected to Help Shape the Future of Clarke Avenue Facility in Milford

Wednesday, June 3, 2015 | Bayhealth Sussex Campus

In November 2014, Bayhealth announced plans to build a new innovative health campus along Route 1 in Milford. While the development of the new health campus is exciting, of equal importance to Bayhealth is ensuring the Clarke Avenue facility remains a viable community asset.

The health campus project team announces a crucial milestone has been reached with the selection of Trammell Crow Company to help re-imagine the Clarke Avenue facility—the current location of Bayhealth Milford Memorial hospital.

When it opens, the new health campus will include an inpatient hospital and emergency department. The 165-acre property will also provide convenient outpatient services such as primary care, specialty physicians and diagnostic testing – all in one location. Bayhealth President and Chief Executive Officer Terry Murphy and his team say that the redevelopment of the Clarke Avenue facility is also a key measurement of the project’s overall success.

“When we revealed our new health campus plans, we asked the community to help us imagine all that it can mean to our families,” said Murphy. “At the same time, we see a great opportunity to re-imagine what the Clarke Avenue facility can become. By engaging an expert firm like Trammell Crow, we’re bringing in vast experience in transitioning health care properties.”

Throughout the selection process, Trammell Crow demonstrated a superior level of understanding and experience with redevelopment projects, specifically for health care organizations. In their 67-year history, they’ve grown to include 16 regional offices across the nation and have served elite health care organizations from The Cleveland Clinic to academic medical centers at Duke and Princeton. Trammell Crow was recently recognized by Modern Healthcare as the top development company in the industry.

The next steps include detailed analysis to explore all options to either redevelop existing facilities, repurpose the land or any effective combination of strategies.

“It is important that the community understand that this is a multi-phase, multi-year process. The Clarke Avenue facility will not be ready for re-development until 2019,” emphasized Murphy.

Progress reports on the Clarke Avenue facility plans as well as the new health campus project will continue to be provided at our Sussex Campus, where the community is also encouraged to provide feedback and sign-up for updates as the project drives forward.
