With more than a decade each at Bayhealth, Constables Jose Mendez and Peter Uhey are committed to keeping patients, visitors and staff safe at all Bayhealth facilities. Both were recently rewarded for their efforts by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety. Mendez received the Medal of Merit Award while Uhey earned the 2017 Russell F. Jones Scholarship.

The Medal of Merit is presented to individuals who distinguish themselves in the performance of duty and going above and beyond the call of duty, even if it means putting one’s life at risk. Mendez was nominated for the award following an encounter with a patient in the Emergency Department. Uhey is in the process of completing his associate’s degree in criminal justice, which is why he applied for the Russell F. Jones Scholarship.

In their roles, Mendez and Uhey enjoy not only making a difference in the lives of patients and visitors, but mentoring junior officers in the department. “We’re helping to establish a great culture and positive work environment. This brings a lot of enjoyment to us,” Uhey said.

Bayhealth is proud of the drive all of our team members, including Uhey and Mendez, exude each day to keep patients, visitors and staff safe. If you’re looking for a career in healthcare, visit Bayhealth.org/Careers to see Bayhealth’s current job openings.
