CVSICU Nurse Kim Wilt Honored With Peer Award

Bayhealth congratulates Registered Nurse Kim Wilt, BSN, RN, on being named the most recent Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit (CVSICU) Employee of the Quarter. Wilt received the award based on nominations from coworkers on her unit.

The CVSICU Employee of the Quarter is a peer award that recognizes nurses for going above and beyond. Wilt’s coworkers believe she sets a higher standard of care for her patients, ensuring all patient needs are met at all times. “I aspire to follow in Kim’s footsteps, as a role model nurse,” one nominator wrote. “Kim’s hard work and dedication to her patients and coworkers is much appreciated. She ensures rooms and beds are set up if there will be a case during the day, and anticipates the upcoming needs of the unit. Kim is a rock star nurse!”

Wilt, a night shift nurse, has been a CVISCU nurse for more than two years; she’s been a nurse for more than six years total. Her kindergarten dream to become a brain surgeon somehow translated to becoming a nurse. Wilt completed her nursing assistant certification while in high school and the rest is history. “I like working in CVSICU because we usually see our patients right away after surgery and they’re really sick. As the days go on, we see them get better and walk out of here much better than when they came in and it’s nice to see that,” Wilt said.

CVSICU is an eight-bed unit that takes care of postoperative cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients. Staff on the unit cares for patients at every phase of open heart surgery including pre-operative teaching, surgical recovering and discharge.
