Enhancing Cancer Patients’ Experience on the Sussex Campus
One of the hallmarks of the Bayhealth Sussex Campus is a newly designed integrated cancer center. Located on the garden level of the Outpatient Center directly adjacent to the hospital, every aspect of the new facility was designed to provide the best clinical outcomes and patient experience. The new facility consolidates all healthcare providers that specialize in cancer services into one place, enabling Bayhealth’s cancer care team of medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, nurses, social workers, and others to provide care in a convenient location.
“Having all members of the cancer care team in one location allows us to carry forward our mission to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer care,” says Rishi Sawhney, MD, medical director of the Bayhealth Cancer Institute. “We look forward to providing our communities with expedited access to cancer treatment as well as valuable supportive care programs.”
The new Bayhealth Cancer Center, Sussex Campus also features an abundance of natural light to brighten the rooms and a beautiful garden just outside the windows to bring the outdoors into view, thereby creating the best healing environment. Other design highlights that will enhance patient experience in the new facility include:
- Sliding glass panels separating the infusion bays, which gives patients the option to converse with fellow cancer patients when opened or to sit privately when closed
- Additional space for family members to sit while their loved ones receive treatment
- Twice as many private infusion bays for chemotherapy treatments
