Cesar Receives Esteemed DAISY Award
For her heartwarming smile and willingness to always go the extra mile for her patients to assure they’re comfortable and safe, 2B Nurse Edkeisha Cesar, BSN, RN, is the latest recipient of the esteemed DAISY Award.
The DAISY Award honors the unsung heroes of the nursing profession. The honor was created by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, and helps fund research and projects that impact the treatment of patients with the same auto-immune disease that claimed his life.
Cesar, a night shift nurse, was nominated by her manager, Kathy Boyer, after she came across an Honors Cards from a patient. “I’m nominating her for the DAISY Award not just because of this recognition, but for the recognition she gets every day from every patient she cares for. She is never without a smile, and is always willing to go the extra mile for her patients to assure they’re comfortable and safe,” Boyer wrote. The patient who submitted the Honor Card stated while waiting for surgery, Cesar was one of his nurses and from the time she came into the room, he could tell Cesar loved her job. She made him feel as if he was the only patient she had.
Cesar wants all of her patients to feel like they’re her top priority. “I want to help people feel better and to feel they deserve the care they’re getting. I like to make them feel like they’re the only person I’m focused on, and that I care about helping them feel better,” Cesar said.
DAISY Award honorees are nominated by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
