Bayhealth Primary Care Practice Expands to Better Serve You and Your Family
As Bayhealth delivers on its promise to meet the healthcare needs of our growing, local community, so does the Bayhealth Medical Group. This partnership of highly trained physicians, their clinical staff, and administrative support teams operate practices throughout central and southern Delaware. The medical practice formerly known as Bayhealth Primary Care, Eden Hill, recently moved to 720 S. Queen Street in Dover and was renamed Bayhealth Primary Care, Dover, West. With a larger, remodeled space and an expanded team, they are helping to meet the demand for primary care services in our area to serve patients of all ages and whole families.
The concept behind primary care is that every individual has a go-to practitioner for their preventive and basic health care needs, and this includes family medicine and internal medicine physicians. Internal medicine focuses on the treatment of adults, whereas family medicine offers care for the entire family—from infants to the elderly. For many, it can be advantageous to go to the same office and doctor for everyone’s appointments. It’s not only convenient, but the familiarity of a doctor that all family members go to see can help increase comfort levels and build even stronger doctor-patient relationships.
Vice President for Bayhealth Medical Group Dina Perry, MBA, emphasized the important role of primary care as the hub of coordination for all the different types of medical care a person might need. “Patients are encouraged to partner with their primary care practice to be the point of contact for coordinating their care,” said Perry. “This team can coordinate referrals to specialists and schedule diagnostic testing. They can also eliminate unnecessary visits to the emergency department through same day sick visits.”
At Bayhealth Primary Care, Dover, West, Internal Medicine physicians Zulehuma Rather, MD, and Amita Jain, MD, specialize in preventing, diagnosing and treating the spectrum of illnesses and conditions that affect adults. Family Medicine Physicians Patience Ankomah, MD; Shailly Saini, MD; and Brintha Vasagar, MD, are trained to provide comprehensive care for all ages, including the full scope of gynecological care for women, minor procedures and pediatrics. This means that parents don’t have to seek out a separate pediatrician for their newborn or children—they can get all the care they need for their family in one place.
Dr. Vasagar, who also serves as Bayhealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program Director, said, "We believe that knowing who you are as a person, including your family, allows us to provide you with better care. That's why we are so excited to be here for your whole family, from day 1 to age 101."
