Taking the Guesswork Out of Medical Bills

Medical bills can feel overwhelming. That’s why Bayhealth’s Patient Financial Services created a new team dedicated to helping patients navigate medical costs. The Price Estimates Team works directly with patients to ensure price transparency for medical treatments.
“Our goal is to eliminate surprise billing for patients,” said Supervisor of Price Estimation Jill Bond. “We are able to determine what each patient’s insurance provider should cover and what their estimated out-ofpocket costs will be. This gives a true estimate of what each patient will need to pay.”
Patients can call, email or use the patient portal MyChart to contact the Price Estimates Team. Patients simply need to provide the procedure codes given to them by their provider’s office and their insurance information to get started.
“We view the process through the lens of someone who might not understand their insurance coverage,” said Manager of Revenue Integrity Daniel Crawford. “We have personalized conversations with all the patients we work with that include a lot of detail and explanation. We want to ensure patients have all the information they need.”
Estimates for Cancer Center and Therapy services, outside of the initial consultation or evaluation, require a treatment plan that will be provided directly by the department. The Price Estimates Team will work with the Cancer Center or Therapy department to create the accurate estimate for the necessary series of treatment. With the exception of the Cancer Center and Therapy services, no other estimate will be honored unless prepared by a member of the Price Estimates team.
All patients are asked to allow up to 48 hours for a response with an estimate.
The Price Estimates Team can be reached by email at Price_Estimates@Bayhealth.org or by phone at 302-310-8001.
