Inspiring Confidence: A Women’s History Month Spotlight on Kim Linkous

Kim Linkous, BSRT(R), an X-ray technologist at Bayhealth, finds joy in giving back.
“Self-care, to me, is helping others,” she said.

Her biggest inspiration is her grandmother, with whom she was very close. Although Linkous’s grandmother passed in 2022, her life lessons live on.
“She always told me that the way to heal the pain in your heart, no matter what caused it, is to do something nice for others,” she said. “And she was right.”
Linkous runs the Morale Committee in her department. Several times a month, she will bake cupcakes to celebrate her coworkers’ birthdays, and she enjoys holding decorating contests on holidays.
She also works to boost her young patients’ confidence by giving them tiaras.
“All the little girls get tiaras when they leave,” she said. “Sometimes I’ll give them to elderly women, too, and you’d be surprised how their demeanor changes. They leave with a smile.”
Linkous loves to be a part of any event that Bayhealth is involved in. Whether it’s community parades or health fairs, she can always be found helping in any way she can. In fact, for the 2022 Heart Walk, she volunteered to dress up as the Queen of Hearts if her team raised more than $2,000. She stayed true to her word when that goal was achieved.
“The costume had high heels, so I’ll definitely rethink my choice of shoes if I decide to do it again,” she said, laughing.
Linkous is always finding ways to go above and beyond. During Bayhealth’s annual Festival of Trees, each department decorates one tree that is raffled off. The money from the raffle tickets is used to support Bayhealth’s Employee Assistance Fund, which helps employees who encounter a crisis or face other unexpected financial challenges.
“Last year, my department decorated nine trees,” she said.
Inspired by passing tiaras out to patients at Bayhealth, Linkous teamed up with a friend to found Party Princesses CNY, a non-profit based in New York. They are dedicated to collecting dresses and tiaras to give to under-privileged girls for special occasions. Linkous makes the drive from Delaware to New York about once a month to host these events.
“The events empower the young girls because it makes them feel that they are worthy of having pretty things. And it empowers their mothers by making them feel like they were able to provide something nice for their daughters,” she said.
“I love helping others find happiness, but I also gain happiness tenfold when I know I’ve been able to help someone,” she said. “Always remember that in order to see change, you must be the change.”
