Intuity Valve Replacement

Bayhealth was the first hospital in Delaware to use the EDWARDS INTUITY Elite valve system after it received FDA approval. This next generation device is used for the treatment of aortic valve stenosis, a hardening or narrowing of the heart’s aortic valve opening, which typically worsens with age.

The intuity valve is unique is that it’s virtually sutureless and is balloon dilated into place, unlike other valves which require 12 to 15 reinforced sutures to secure.

While implantation still requires open heart surgery, use of the intuity valve can facilitate a less invasive surgical approach. This gives patients a quicker operation and smaller incision.
