Bayhealth Nurse, Terry Towne, Earns DAISY Health Equity Award for Community Outreach Efforts
Bayhealth recognized Terry Towne, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, NE-BC, as the 2025 DAISY Award for Nurses Advancing Health Equity winner. This national award honors nurses who go above and beyond to care for patients, especially those in vulnerable communities. It recognizes their work in making healthcare more accessible for people who may face challenges in receiving the care they need.
Towne is an inpatient and community outreach educator at Bayhealth in Dover, Delaware, and was nominated by Amanda Bowie who is the vice president of Bayhealth's Marketing, Communications & Community Outreach Department.
“Terry’s unwavering commitment to our health system's mission has significantly impacted the well-being of countless individuals within our community. Her commitment to community outreach has been instrumental in the impact we are making, and without her, we would not be able to achieve the level of outreach and care that defines our mission. She is an invaluable asset to our team and a true embodiment of what it means to serve with heart and purpose,” says Bowie.
Towne makes a significant impact through her monthly visits to a low-barrier housing facility, offering health screenings and education to underserved individuals. Her efforts build trust, improve health outcomes and connect vulnerable populations to essential care. One of her most successful initiatives is the Healthy for Life cohort, which supports those with diabetes or pre-diabetes by teaching nutrition and healthy living skills. Participants consistently commend her engaging, compassionate teaching style, highlighting her talent as both a nurse and educator, adds Bowie.
The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. DAISY Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients and families.
