University of Delaware Athletics 302 Tour Visits Bayhealth, Kent Campus
Bayhealth recently welcomed University of Delaware (UD) Athletics student-athletes to Bayhealth, Kent Campus as part of the university’s annual 302 Tour, a community engagement initiative that connects Fightin’ Blue Hens student-athletes with organizations and partners across Delaware.
The June 12 visit centered around the theme “Bayhealth: Behind the Scenes,” providing student-athletes with a unique opportunity to explore the many career pathways and experiences that support healthcare beyond direct patient care.
The day began with a welcome discussion led by Bayhealth Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer Darlene Stone, MBA, SHRM-SCP, CHHR, who shared insights in the healthcare employment pipeline and the wide range of professional opportunities available within the healthcare industry. Student-athletes learned about career development, workforce needs and the diverse roles that contribute to delivering high-quality care throughout the community.
To gain a deeper understanding of patient-centered care, the group also participated in hands-on activities organized by Bayhealth’s Volunteer Services team. Student-athletes created patient tray cards and assembled activity bags designed to bring comfort, encouragement and engagement to patients during their hospital stay.
The visit also included an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour led by Bayhealth’s facilities team. Participants explored areas of the hospital not typically seen by visitors, including the helipad, and learned how departments across the organization work together to deliver safe, efficient and compassionate care.
“We are grateful for our partnership with Bayhealth,” Director of Athletics & Campus Recreation Jordan Skolnick said. “This was the third year they joined us as associate sponsors for the 302 Tour and each year the organization has provided us with an incredible experience! Having a partner like Bayhealth, which shares our vision in community engagement and building leaders, is part of what makes the State of Delaware and the 302 so special!”
Bayhealth is proud to partner with UD Athletics and support opportunities that connect student-athletes with meaningful experiences in the communities they serve.
“The heart and soul of Bayhealth goes far beyond our hospital walls,” said Stone. “We were honored to welcome these student-athletes, share the many ways healthcare professionals make a difference every day and highlight the important role community partnerships play in building a healthier Delaware."
The visit reflects the shared commitment of Bayhealth and University of Delaware Athletics to service, education and community engagement, while inspiring future leaders to explore opportunities to make a positive impact through healthcare and beyond.
