Melisa M. Edler, MD, practices general obstetrics and gynecology with clinical interests in high-risk pregnancies and minimally invasive surgery.
Growing up with both parents in medical professions, Dr. Edler would watch her father perform surgeries on Saturdays at his veterinary clinic and was mesmerized. She was a candy striper and later, a summer intern at a local hospital. Even though a positive experience tutoring in college pulled her in a different direction with a brief stint teaching science, she followed through in pursuing her first love—medicine.
The mix of clinical work and surgery, as well as the opportunity to develop relationships with patients, drew Dr. Edler to the OB-GYN specialty while she was in medical school.
Dr. Edler earned numerous accolades during her residency, including Best Endocrinology Second Year Resident, the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine Award, and first place at Resident Research Day for her project on cervical cancer patients in the era of the HPV vaccine.
Being able to help women through important periods of their lives, including sexual development, family planning, pregnancy and menopause, is what Dr. Edler finds the most rewarding part of her job. She takes pride in making patients feel comfortable talking about issues with their bodies, and helping them stay healthy.
She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her two dogs. She also likes the beach and has picked up kayaking and paddle boarding.
