Amanda BowieInterim Vice President, Marketing, Communications & Community Engagement

Amanda Bowie, MSM, interim vice president, Marketing, Communications, and Community Engagement, is a visionary marketer experienced in strategies that engage patients and team members, and build vital relationships with community partners and the people they serve. A dynamic leader, she inspires and motivates a diverse team of professionals to produce innovative and nationally award-winning work that drives brand preference and helps patients quickly find the care they need.

Before her current role, she was senior manager of Marketing Communications at Bayhealth, serving as second in command to the vice president of Marketing & Communications. She has also held communications and marketing-related roles at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD, and the US Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC.

With the goal of maximizing Bayhealth’s efforts to help those in greatest need, Bowie expanded the Marketing Communications department in September 2023 to include Community Engagement. Using social determinants of health data and Bayhealth’s Community Health Needs Assessment, she is leading her team to develop new initiatives, partnering with local organizations, universities, and schools with missions similar to Bayhealth’s, including the Food Bank of Delaware, Delaware State University, Free Bikes for Kidz Delaware, and others. (Earlier, in 2022, she facilitated the launch of the Bayhealth-sponsored 302 Food Rescue, a collaboration between the Food Bank of Delaware and American Heart Association — and the first-of-its-kind statewide program that combats food and nutrition insecurity.)

Bowie also supports several internal initiatives at Bayhealth, including Capacity Management, Care Access, Operational Excellence, Reducing Racial Disparities in Healthcare, and Social Determinants of Health. In addition, she directed Bayhealth’s branding refresh launch in October 2023, based on research in the community and among employees. The result is a new brand promise that conveys Bayhealth’s commitment to patients, staff, and all those living in Kent and Sussex counties.

“I find a lot of joy in working with my dynamic, thoughtful, hard-working team as we do our part in making a difference in the community,” said Bowie. “Connecting people with vital services and experts that can ultimately improve their health outcomes makes what we do rewarding. It’s a source of pride that I can have a positive impact on the area where I live, and where my husband and I are raising our children.”

Bowie received a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in management (concentration in marketing) at Wilmington University. She is also certified in brand strategies by Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. Her professional memberships include the Society of HealthCare Strategy & Market Development, Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, and Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration. In addition, she is a member of SHSMD (the Society for Health Care Strategy & Market Development) and MASHMD (the Mid-Atlantic Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development).

As a volunteer in the community, Bowie has fundraised for various organizations, including the Alzheimer's Association (Memory Walk), Habitat for Humanity in Southern Maryland, and the American Heart Association (Southern Delaware Heart Walk). For several years she also served as a coach for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Southern Maryland.

When not working, Bowie makes time for extra creativity, as well as fun. She curates home decor, refurbishes furniture pieces, and decorates spaces for friends and family members. Married since 2007, she and her husband enjoy a wide variety of activities with their four children, who range in age from toddler to teens. As a family, they play basketball in the backyard, throw and hit baseballs, travel to local events and festivals, play board games, and dance in the kitchen. In addition, Bowie and her husband support the kids’ participation in organized sports.
