Senior Vice President & Chief Strategy Officer
John Van Gorp, MA, MBA, CPA, is senior vice president, chief strategy officer. With more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry, he guides Bayhealth’s growth with his expertise in strategic planning, market and financial feasibility studies, development of new healthcare services, government relations and project management.
What he enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to introduce new and improved services to the community and the ability to make a difference by influencing policy decisions for the betterment of Delawareans. He also enjoys working with dedicated teammates for an organization focused on strengthening the health of the community.
Before joining Bayhealth in 2007, Van Gorp held leadership roles at Wuesthoff Health System in Florida, and served as a consultant at Ernst & Young in Pittsburgh, PA, working with healthcare clients.
An active contributor to the community, Van Gorp is a member of the Downtown Dover Partnership (serving as vice chair), Delaware Technical Community College Development Committee, and Behavioral Health Committee of the Delaware Healthcare Association. He’s also involved in improving behavioral health in central and southern Delaware and supports organizations that aim to eliminate hunger.
In terms of healthcare industry influence, Van Gorp is a member of the American Hospital Association, Delaware Healthcare Association (chair of the Policy Committee), Healthcare Financial Management Association, and the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development.
He holds three degrees from the University of Iowa (BBA, Marketing; MA, Hospital & Health Administration; and an MBA). Van Gorp is also a certified public accountant. In his time away from work, this former tuba player loves spending time with his family and supporting his daughters in their pursuits. He also enjoys basketball, skiing, swimming, biking, and, when not injured, running.
