Bayhealth Celebrates 2023 Delaware Today Top Nurses and Honorees

As a Magnet® organization committed to upholding the highest standards of nursing, Bayhealth is proud to recognize its 2023 Delaware Today Top Nurses as awarded at the recent Excellence in Nursing Awards. Bayhealth nurses were honored as Top Nurses in six of 16 categories, and there were an additional 75 Bayhealth nurses nominated by their peers and recognized at the event.
The extensive list of Bayhealth honorees spanned the 16 categories—from inpatient and ambulatory nurses to clinical educators, nurse leaders and each discipline in between. Rising to the top of each of their respective categories were Top Nurses:
- Gifty Boateng, MSN, RN, CPAN – Ambulatory Care Nursing
- Rachel Joyner, LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse
- Erica McPhail, MSN, APRN, AGCNS-BC, NPD-BC – Clinical Educator
- Nina Pletsch, MSN, RN-BC, CPAN – Informatics
- Kim Scott, MS, RN-BC – Nursing Legend
- Allison Sekela, BSN, RN – Nursing Newcomer
They represent different disciplines, have different passions, and are in different stages of their careers, but Bayhealth’s Top Nurses are firmly united in their drive to make a difference in the lives of their patients.
Nursing Newcomer Top Nurse Allison Sekela, BSN, RN, was inspired to pay it forward after witnessing the compassionate care her brother received. “My family and I were in and out of the hospital with my brother his whole life. The way the nurses and doctors took care of my brother and our family inspired me to do the same for others through a career in nursing,” she shared.
As a more recent addition to the Bayhealth Magnet® nursing team, Chief Nurse Executive Rosemary “Rosi” Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, CEN, said, “They’re incredible nurses and just incredible people. I couldn’t be more proud to lead this team of Magnet® nurses, to celebrate their achievements, and continue to help elevate their voices at Bayhealth with the shared goal of providing the best care possible to our community.”
