Bayhealth Celebrates Match Day

Bayhealth celebrated Match Day on March 15, matching new physicians with its Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. The programs, which were established in 2019, continue to grow every year, producing competent, well-rounded physicians and bringing more access to healthcare for Delawareans.
This year, Bayhealth matched with 30 new physicians to join its four programs-- emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, and general surgery. These talented individuals will contribute to the ongoing success of Bayhealth's residency programs, which have provided care for almost 39,000 patients over the past three years.
Now in their fourth year, the Family Medicine Residency Program matched with eight residents and the Internal Medicine Residency Program matched with 13 residents. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program, now in its second year, matched with six residents. The General Surgery Residency Program, now in its third year, matched with three residents.
The programs allow new medical doctors to gain more experience over the next three to five years working in the hospital setting as well as community-based physician practices.
Bayhealth partners with several regional medical schools, including Drexel and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). The health system has served as a Core Clinical Campus for PCOM for the past five years. Several of the new residents will be joining Bayhealth from PCOM and Drexel.
One of the highlights of Bayhealth's graduate medical education programs is the state-of-the-art PCOM Simulation Center. Opened in 2022, the Simulation Center has significantly enhanced the training experience for residents, clinical teams, and medical staff.
"Our Sim Center has added tremendously to our ability to offer our residents, as well as a host of clinical teams and medical students who rotate here at Bayhealth, the latest in technology and simulation equipment to elevate their training," explained Chief Medical Officer and GME Designated Institutional Official Dr. Gary Siegelman, MD, MSc.
The facility provides residents with access to cutting-edge technology and simulation equipment, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience in a controlled environment. This advanced training facility ensures that Bayhealth's residents receive the highest quality education and are well-prepared to provide exceptional care to their patients.
As this is Bayhealth’s fourth Match Day, physicians from its inaugural residencies, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, will be graduating this spring. A number of them will be continuing their careers at Bayhealth, while others will start fellowship programs to further advance their training and hone their skills.
