Bayhealth Supports Delaware Medical Consortium to Strengthen Healthcare Across Delaware
At Bayhealth, we're excited about a new opportunity that could help strengthen healthcare across Delaware for years to come.
Recently, Gov. Matt Meyer announced the creation of the Delaware Medical Consortium, a new partnership focused on expanding medical education, physician training and research opportunities throughout the state. Bayhealth is proud to be a partner for the new medical school initiative.
While the name may sound academic, the goal is simple: help train more doctors in Delaware and encourage them to build their careers here.
This matters because Delaware, like many states across the country, faces shortages of physicians in several important areas, including primary care, women's health and behavioral health. One of the best ways to address those shortages is to provide future doctors with opportunities to learn and train close to home.
Research shows that physicians often choose to practice where they complete their medical education and residency training. That's why Bayhealth has invested heavily in growing the residency and fellowship programs over the past several years.
"This announcement marks an exciting milestone for Delaware and a meaningful investment in the future of healthcare for our residents," said Bayhealth President and CEO Terry Murphy. “We have seen firsthand how training local physicians can help improve access to care for the communities we serve. We are proud to be a leading partner in this collaborative effort and look forward to contributing to its success.”
Through the residency and fellowship programs, Bayhealth continues to build a strong pipeline of physicians who are committed to serving Kent and Sussex counties. The Delaware Medical Consortium will help create even more opportunities for students and physicians to learn, grow and ultimately care for patients right here in Delaware.
For patients and families, this effort is about ensuring access to high-quality healthcare now and in the future. For team members, it reflects Bayhealth's ongoing commitment to education, innovation and workforce development.
