About

Andrea DeSimone, DO, is a board-certified psychiatrist who sees hospitalized patients needing mental health care and those seeking outpatient medication management or psychotherapy services.

Drawn to studies in college that explored human nature and the mind-body connection, Dr. DeSimone found psychiatry to be a natural path for her. During a summer internship at a drug and alcohol treatment center she witnessed the strong connections between medical, psychiatric and existential suffering and developed a strong appreciation for how individuals can benefit from treatments addressing both mind and body.

With her training as an osteopathic physician, Dr. DeSimone takes a holistic view in gaining an understanding of each patient and incorporating the mind, body and spirit in treatments to help them find health and wellbeing. She also aims to educate her patients about the role and value of psychiatry in improving their physical and mental health. Through her consultations, she enables them to more fully understand themselves and be understood in an open and accepting environment. She describes the beautiful outcomes that can result after working with an individual and helping them achieve their goals—a person with debilitating anxiety successfully interviewing and getting a job, someone with addiction staying sober and going back to school—as what fulfills and inspires her in her daily work.

Dr. DeSimone has a clinical interest in working with patients who have medically complex circumstances—living with chronic illnesses; suffering from cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or other serious illnesses; or dealing with the effects of an organ transplant or the side effects of various medical treatments. Providing outpatient mental and emotional health services, including medication management and psychotherapy guided by psychodynamic principles, an in-depth form of therapy which explores the roots of emotional suffering, is also deeply rewarding to her.

When she’s not working, Dr. DeSimone can usually be found outside on the beach reading a book, in the kitchen trying a new plant-based recipe or watching a true crime documentary. She also loves to swim and has taught youth and adaptive aquatics.
