Francis J. Velez, MD

Francis Velez, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon.

Dr. Velez was born and raised in Maryland. Introduced to the profession of surgery by his father, a general surgeon, he aspired from an early age to also be a surgeon. After completing medical school, residency and a fellowship in head and neck surgery, he returned to Maryland to pursue his career as a general and head and neck surgeon. He worked in private practice on staff at Medstar Union Memorial Hospital, Harbor Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, and Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Dr. Velez performs the gamut of general surgeries and has particular expertise in surgeries of the endocrine glands such as the thyroid and parathyroid, lymph nodes, and the salivary glands. He takes pride in guiding patients through the surgical experience, from the initial consultation to the postoperative visits, with the goal of increasing patients’ longevity and promoting quality of life. 

When he is not working, Dr. Velez enjoys woodworking and cooking what he harvests while hunting and fishing.
