Shruti Patel, MD, is a gastroenterologist specializing in diagnosing and treating disorders of the digestive system.
By middle school, Dr. Patel knew she wanted to be not just a doctor, but a gastroenterologist specifically. She had developed an early love for biology and won many science awards and scholarships throughout school. She always looked up to her older sister and was inspired to follow in her footsteps by attending medical school then moving to the United States for further training.
Dr. Patel continued to focus on the specialty she loved. Hardworking by nature, she worked tirelessly as a resident and was determined to do whatever it took to land a gastroenterology fellowship, considered one of the most competitive subspecialties following internal medicine residency.
As a physician, she now works just as hard for each and every one of her patients. Dr. Patel likes that in her specialty she can enjoy both the personal side of offering individualized care and building relationships during office visits, and the technical side of performing outpatient procedures. Knowing that each patient has unique medical challenges and each day can bring something different, she is attuned to providing responsive and compassionate care.
Whether it’s at a community health fair or a lecture with other medical professionals, Dr. Patel takes every opportunity to share her knowledge and help educate others. When she’s not working, she enjoys nature and outdoor activities, including hiking and biking, and also likes to cook and to paint.
