Su Chafin is a licensed professional counselor of mental health (LPCMH) who offers a range of behavioral health services and counseling to families, children, and adults.
Su has always been fascinated by human behavior and loves working with people. She has a knack for analyzing and understanding problems by breaking them down and looking at the smaller pieces and causes. Becoming a licensed psychotherapist was a natural fit for her.
She started her career teaching children experiencing challenges in school and with behavior. Su previously spent 15 years working in school-based counseling through the Bayhealth Wellness Centers. She also has taught counseling to local graduate students for many years.
Su loves teaching mostly because she feels it makes her a better practitioner and loves sharing her experiences as a core faculty member in Bayhealth’s graduate medical education (GME) residency program in family medicine. She works with physician residents in developing their bedside manners, skills to treat patients experiencing behavioral health concerns, and their own physician wellbeing.
As a therapist, Su strives to provide another perspective for people and help shift their thinking to benefit their own behaviors, relationships, and overall wellbeing. She feels immense gratitude to patients as they offer their vulnerability and trust for the betterment of their lives. Her favorite moments are hearing a patient say, "I never thought about it like that."
When she’s not seeing patients or working with the residency program, Su can usually be found at the beach or enjoying time with her family and fur babies. She also enjoys practicing yoga and meditation and is working on her doctorate degree in the social sciences with a concentration in prevention.
