Vinay Edlukudige Keshava, MD, is a hematologist and medical oncologist who treats a variety of blood diseases and types of cancers at the Bayhealth Cancer Institute.
Dr. Keshava was just 10 years old when he set his sights on becoming a doctor after witnessing his maternal grandmother lose her battle with ovarian cancer. His personal experience and training have shaped his philosophy of care which is focused on the individual—providing personal connection, clear communication, and a trusted resource for what often is the most stressful time in a patient’s life.
Drawn to Bayhealth by the unique mix of community-based oncology and academic excellence within the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship, he is proud to be part of a team committed to improving the lives of his neighbors.
Dr. Keshava is a native of India and earned his medical degree there before moving to the United States for his internal medicine residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Darby, PA. He completed his hematology and oncology fellowship at Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium in Pittsburgh, PA and was chief fellow.
Dr. Keshava has a special interest in studying immunotherapy and its relationship with the gut microbiome. He is the co-author of a paper named "The Influence of the Microbiome on Immunotherapy for Gastroesophageal Cancer" in the journal "Cancers" which was selected as one of the best of 2023-2024.
When he isn’t at work, Dr. Keshava enjoys playing chess and cricket, and traveling with his wife who is a molecular biologist. He’s also trained in Indian classical music as a vocalist and instrumentalist.
Dr. Keshava is fluent in Hindi, Kannada and English.
