Brintha Vasagar, MD, is a primary care doctor who treats patients of all ages, and is Bayhealth’s Family Medicine Residency Program Director.
Dr. Vasagar loves caring for whole families, from infants to grandparents, and finds it deeply rewarding to be a part of the growth and important milestones in each family along the way. She has special interest in women’s health and treating gluten related disorders. Promoting preventive care and healthy lifestyle choices, Dr. Vasagar tries to help individuals see that they are the biggest drivers of their own health. Her goal is to provide the expertise, guidance and support to aid each patient on a successful journey to optimal wellness.
Just as she enjoys sharing her medical knowledge with and advocating for patients, Dr. Vasagar is equally passionate about physician leadership, preparing the next generation of doctors, and advancing community health. After earning her medical degree followed by a master’s in public health, she was an instructor in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. She then completed her residency and went on to the Medical University of South Carolina where she led a team to develop an innovative, new residency program at Tidelands Health. In addition to her role as associate program director, she led leadership and advocacy initiatives which have left their mark on the community. She is most proud of partnering with Smith Medical Clinic to establish an after-hours, resident-run free clinic which continues to serve the patients who need it the most.
Dr. Vasagar has always been active in volunteerism, particularly in charities focused on health and education for women and children globally and here at home. She is often found out in the community, speaking about health topics which impact our community. Her hobbies also include traveling, reading and playing the piano.
