Bayhealth Receives $615,000 ARPA Grant from Sussex County Council

As part of its mission, Bayhealth is committed to providing quality health care for its expanding community. Now thanks in part to a significant grant provided by the Sussex County Council, we are one step closer to completing a multimillion-dollar facility in this rapidly growing and underserved area.
The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the need for superior health care in convenient locations for our residents. To that end, the federal government set up the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to provide grants, which were then distributed by local governments. Bayhealth requested that Sussex County ARPA funds be granted to help build the new Bayhealth Total Care Facility on Rt. 9 and Hudson Road. The Sussex County Council approved funds in the amount of $615,000 to assist Bayhealth in the construction of this much needed state-of-the-art health facility, specifically to provide a portion of the nearly $6.5 million of equipment that will be employed in the facility.
“The ARPA funds are aimed at helping communities like Sussex County recover from the effects of the pandemic,” said Sussex County Council President Michael H. Vincent. “Directing those dollars to various sectors, particularly to the frontlines of healthcare, ensures that this money will get to the people and institutions in need of that support. Sussex County is proud to include Bayhealth in this allocation and salutes their team for their tireless efforts the past 24 months in doing all they can to provide healthcare services in the face of such historic challenges.”
The Bayhealth Total Care facility will provide an emergency and walk-in center as well as primary and specialty care providers to Southern Delaware, where there has been a shortage of available doctors for some time. The 48,500 square-foot facility will accommodate an onsite lab and imaging department and provide care in neurosurgery, cardiology, orthopedics surgery, oncology and more. There will also be five primary care physicians onsite to meet our patients’ needs. The facility is scheduled to open in the spring of 2023.
