Bayhealth’s Breanna Buff, RN, has earned a DAISY Award for her compassionate and reassuring care. According to Buff’s nominator, she had “showed the most compassion I have ever witnessed in a nurse.”
The DAISY Award is a “thank you” to extraordinary nurses. This program recognizes nurses who show compassion and determination through the care they provide. The DAISY Award honors the super-human work that nurses everywhere do for their patients along with their families.
The DAISY Award is given by the DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. The Barnes Family wanted to recognize the nurses who cared for Patrick and all the other “unsung heroes” of the nursing profession.
Delivering a new life is nerve-racking as it is; delivering a new life for the first time produces even more anxiety. Having a sense of support and comfort during these anxious yet beautiful moments, is incredibly important for new parents. “Buff actually took the time to introduce herself to us which already made us more at ease and comfortable with her,” Buff’s nominator and patient wrote.
The world of parenthood is filled with unknowns and unexpected occurrences. Having a supporter who is able to guide new parents and answer all of the questions they may have throughout the delivery process is incredibly valuable.
“Buff went out of her way to stay with us, explain a variety of things to each of us, helped my newborn latch for the first time, and provided me with a bunch of different tips and techniques. Coming from her experience in the NICU, she also provided us with information about newborns in general that we didn’t know prior, which made our transition coming home much smoother,” concluded Buff’s nominator.
DAISY Award honorees are chosen by nurses, administrators, peers, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families. If you know a Bayhealth nurse who deserves to be nominated, visit Bayhealth.org/DAISY and fill out the nomination form.
