In a collaboration blending health and the arts, the Bayhealth Foundation and the Biggs Museum of American Art (Biggs Museum) hosted a joint reception on June 11, bringing together donors and supporters from both organizations. Held at the Biggs Museum in Dover, Delaware, the evening served as both a celebration of shared philanthropic values and an opportunity to spotlight the role of art in helping clinicians and caregivers facing burnout and emotional fatigue.

The highlight of the evening was a presentation by Bayhealth Chief Wellness Officer Thomas Vaughan, MD, who spoke on the benefits of art therapy in healthcare environments. His presentation emphasized how creative expression is being used to support clinicians, nurses and team members navigating the emotional demands of their work.

“Clinicians and caregivers give so much of themselves every day. Art offers a powerful outlet — helping to reduce stress, restore energy and prevent burnout,” said Dr. Vaughan. “This partnership between Bayhealth and the Biggs Museum is a testament to the power of community and creativity coming together to heal.”

Guests at the event were invited to explore art exhibits, while also learning about upcoming initiatives designed to integrate healthcare and art therapy.

“This collaboration is more than a one-time event,” said Bayhealth Foundation President Lindsay Rhodenbaugh, DMin. “It represents an ongoing commitment to care for our community through innovative, evidence-based approaches like art therapy.”

The reception highlighted a new Art and Wellbeing collaboration between the two organizations, with plans underway to create rotating art galleries to highlight Bayhealth team member and local student creativity. The collaboration will also include the installation of interactive displays and creative corners to enhance creativity and innovation for museum attendees.

“Bayhealth shares our conviction that creativity and well-being go hand in hand,” said Biggs Museum Executive Director Hassan Najjar. “Together, we’re opening new doors—bringing art into healing spaces and inviting neighbors into the Museum—to nurture healthier, more vibrant lives across central Delaware.”
