Bayhealth is proud to announce that Pharmacist Kyle Massey, PharmD, BCIDP, has been named the 2025 Pharmacist of the Year by the Delaware Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

The award recognizes Dr. Massey’s exceptional contributions in infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship at Bayhealth and throughout the Delaware community.

Dr. Massey (pictured on the right above) serves as Bayhealth’s infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship clinical pharmacy specialist. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Jefferson College of Pharmacy in 2016 and completed advanced infectious disease residencies at the University of Pennsylvania.

Before joining Bayhealth, Dr. Massey worked at Eastern Maine Medical Center as an infectious disease pharmacist and co-director of the antimicrobial stewardship program.

His nomination, submitted by Bayhealth colleague Carl Popelas, PharmD, BCOP, highlights Dr. Massey’s leadership in evidence-based antimicrobial practices that improve patient care and promote responsible antibiotic use.

“Kyle is a valuable member of the Bayhealth pharmacy team focused on implementing evidence-based treatment guidelines,” said Dr. Popelas. “He has earned support from prescribers and administration to launch impactful programs such as automatic IV to oral antibiotic conversions and a real-time electronic Bug-Drug Guide available across the health system.”

“Kyle’s efforts have optimized antimicrobial usage and enhanced multidisciplinary collaboration,” Dr. Popelas added. “This has earned him respect and trust from his peers.”

“Receiving this recognition is truly an honor,” said Dr. Massey. “I am grateful to work alongside a dedicated team committed to improving patient outcomes through thoughtful antimicrobial stewardship. Our goal is to foster an environment where every healthcare professional feels empowered to use antibiotics wisely — ultimately benefiting the patients and community we serve.”

Dr. Massey continues to lead innovative stewardship initiatives, including routine antibiotic ‘time outs’ during rounds, real-time susceptibility reporting and developing pathways to avoid unnecessary antibiotic use in patients with reported allergies. His work helps Bayhealth lead efforts in combating antimicrobial resistance.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Massey on this well-deserved award and his outstanding service to Bayhealth and Delaware.
